Use Character Creator Games to Improve Your Skills
What is a Character Creator Game?
A game with a character creator is not like a role-playing game that emphasizes character creation before you start playing. Instead, character creator games focus on the actual creation and artistic design of characters.
This is something I definitely enjoy, as I am known for spending hours customizing and perfecting the appearance of my in-game character, the avatar that represents me in some of my favorite games.
Typically, during the development of such games, a significant portion of character creator games are aimed at women, as they make up the primary demographic of players.
What Are the Best Character Creator Games?
When it comes to character creator games, you are offered a wide variety of options and niches. Some games are dedicated specifically to men or women, superheroes, schoolchildren, and many others. Here are some of the most notable games focused on character creation.
Character Creator.org
This site offers curious designers a huge number of customization options. After testing it, I immediately dove into the game without exploring all the possibilities; essentially, I just went with the flow. Within 2 minutes, what I came up with was a mix of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Terminator.
Of course, I was just picking options at random, but the number of options is simply fantastic. And it looks pretty good too!
The Simpsons Character Creator
Fans of the long-running animated TV series 'The Simpsons' will really enjoy this take on the town of Springfield. You can make your avatar ordinary, like a background character, or you can truly make it stand out by adding unique traits.
Think of Sideshow Bob and Krusty the Clown.
Here you have everything from the series, including Duff Beer, Moe's Tavern, and a wardrobe that Ned Flanders would love.
Mii Maker
Similar to the Nintendo Mii app on phones, created as part of mobile game development, this character creator allows the user to fully customize a character. Sometimes it even provides a huge amount of creative possibilities for Mii characters, which is a breath of fresh air.
Sci-Fi Warrior 2
This character builder game is directly influenced by the Star Wars franchise. It allows you to create beautiful works of science fiction art. What I like about this creator is that since Star Wars focuses only on men, it can better concentrate on the clothing they wear.
You can create who you think you could be in the Star Wars universe. Will you be a cunning Sith warrior like Darth Vader, or a calm, more peaceful warrior like Luke Skywalker? You have a large number of settings, including lightsabers!) to determine that.
DC Universe Online
Although this is a massively multiplayer online game, character creation receives a lot of attention, which is an important stage of game development. The character creator is deep and detailed, and you will feel among superheroes like Wonder Woman and Batman.
What more could you ask for?
Mega Anime Creator
Anime fans, this is what you've been waiting for. If you are a regular fan of numerous anime and manga and imagine that you could fit into the anime of your choice, then this is your chance.
I always wanted to be in something like Dragonball Z and Inuyasha, where I could play as a mysterious warrior, wanderer, vagabond, and much more. In this character creator, you can do exactly that, creating detailed anime characters that look like they could fit into your favorite anime.

How to Improve Your Skills
Honestly, some people have an artistic eye, and others may lack it. But that doesn't mean you can't get better. In fact, you can, you just need a little practice and attention to fashion and aesthetics. Here are just a few ways to improve your character creation skills.
Even if you feel chaotic creating characters without any reason or meaning, it's still worth going through this list to see if it can help you even in a storm of disorder and chaos!
Start with the Basics
This may seem obvious, but if you are creating a character for a story or role-playing game (e.g., Dungeons & Dragons), building a good foundation is crucial. This is where you develop your character's backstory, both literally and figuratively.
If you are really into it, think carefully about your character's motives and knowledge. Is this fantasy character a merchant summoned to slay a fearsome beast? Or is it a humble knight forced to partake in a conspiracy full of court intrigues and bandits?
It's all up to you, and you can let your creativity run wild. Sometimes you can create a background that features your avatar.
Choose Gender and Physique
In games, there is usually always an option to customize desired physique and gender. It doesn't matter what exactly you choose, but if you want to choose a background for your character, these are the most important options to select for now. They are just the building blocks for the fun to come.
Choose Skin Tone, Eye Color, Hairstyle
This is where the fun really begins. Will you choose a more 'normal' eye color, like blue, brown, or green? Or are you inspired by the light purple eyes of the Targaryens from 'Game of Thrones'?
Don't be afraid to experiment with raw creative freedom, especially if the character creator allows such wild options. Hairstyle is my personal favorite, especially if there is an extensive facial hair system. I always tend to make characters that look like Vikings.
Clothing
This is where the various creators and unique traits of who you are using come into play. As in role-playing games, clothing can make a huge difference for characters. A character that may not yet meet your standards might just need some tweaking in the clothing department.
I edited a character where a pistol holster and shoulder pads transformed him from a squeaky dweeb with no goals into a wasteland thug who looked like you wouldn't want to cross swords with him on your best day. I cannot emphasize how fun this step and skill is. It is usually the highlight of any character creator game.
Final Touches
As already mentioned, here you apply the final touches to your character. This includes accessories such as wands, jewelry, earrings, necklaces, and anything else you can think of.
Is your character a representative of 17th-century European monarchies? In luxurious jewelry? Or are you more like my wasteland villain equipped with tires turned into shoulder armor? This is the stage where you can lean back and admire your character in all its glory.
Did you achieve what you initially wanted to create? What did you change or transform? Did you correctly embody your idea in the character? If it didn't turn out as you expected, don't hesitate to go back to previous steps to tweak options and change the appearance.
Conclusion
If you follow these simple recommendations, your creative abilities and possibilities will be limitless. The only thing holding you back is your creative imagination, so don't be afraid to experiment. There are tons of different character creator games and many players.
Don't forget this if you particularly liked one of them, because by sending a donation to the creators, you will help fellow artists and may add new features to your favorite character creator.
